Due to the growth of our practice we are looking for an enthusiastic trainee accountant and auditor to support our audit and accounts teams. The role will include periods spent working at client’s premises (including some overnight stays out of the area), preparing audit fieldwork under the leadership of an audit manager. In addition, this exciting role will also include more traditional accounts preparation and tax compliance work for our corporate clients, sole traders and partnerships.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • preparing audit fieldwork under the leadership of an audit manager
  • accounts preparation for sole traders, partnerships, LLP’s and companies
  • Tax compliance

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years audit experience required.
  • Iris software experience a benefit but not essential.

You will be expected to demonstrate:

  • A good working knowledge of various accounting programmes. These may include: Sage 50, Xero, 
 QuickBooks and Sage One
  • Competency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

In addition:

  • Hold a clean UK driving licence and access to a car
  • Be able to work well both independently and within a team
  • Committed to your own professional development and a willingness to adapt as the department grows
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels and with clients
  • Work to deadlines
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management skills

Working week:

  • Monday-Thursday 8.15am — 5.00pm
  • Friday 8.30am – 1pm

Remuneration package and study support:

    We have an exciting opportunity for a bright, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our talented team of practice accountants.

    The role would ideally suit someone who:

    • is meticulous and passionate about doing a good job
    • has at least 3 years’ experience in finance/accounts for a business or within a practice environment
    • is AAT level 4/started ACCA qualification or has experience to match

    About the role

    You will play a vital role in supporting the accounting team and will receive ongoing guidance and mentoring by friendly and experienced professionals to:

    • maintain clients’ financial records by using the latest bookkeeping software and innovative tools
    • prepare and submit VAT Returns
    • prepare tax computations
    • prepare self-assessment tax returns
    • prepare working papers, lead schedules and statutory financial statements
    • on-board clients and build client relationships
    • submit company secretarial updates for businesses
    • gain an in-depth knowledge of business and personal tax to comply with legislative regulations

    What it takes – skills and knowledge

    You’ll need:

    • GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (at least level 4 or above)

    What do Practice Accountants do?

    • Build client relationships to understand what they do and what they need
    • Ensure that businesses’ accounting records are accurate and help them comply with all tax legislation
    • Use the most innovative software to help business owners process their accounting data
    • Advise business owners and individuals about accounting legislation and tax compliance and planning
    • Prepare statutory financial statements/ tax returns and other statutory reports for businesses/individuals
    • Assist with regulatory audits for larger businesses
    • A whole host of work that supports business owners so they can carry out their business activities
    • Help develop and train others as they progress through their accounting careers!
